Notice the starting abilities for all the starter Pokémon. They all start with type moves, eg. Cherimuu gets a fire move (Ember I think), Pachirisu gets a water move (Water Gun?) , Dorapion gets Razor Leaf (e.g.?). Makes the initial you vs rival near-impossible to win, if his pokémon can do double damage but yours can only do half-damage. Quite a difference between Charmander’s 40-damage Scratch vs Squirtle’s 35-damage Tackle.

Mea culpa! These aren’t the starter Pokémon! The starters are Naetoru (a grass turtle), Hikozaru (a fire monkey), and Pochama (a water penguin). When I first saw Pochama, I thought it was going to be a baby Delibird…

Hi Rukario,
Just letting you know that I did not say that these were the starter Pokemon in Diamond and Pearl. If you look at the top of the post notice the message that says these are some of the 1st but not the starter Pokemon.
